Poker Fuels Growth at 888
Poker Fuels Growth at 888 888 is best known for its online casino operations but its most recent quarterly results received a big boost from its poker operations
which have blossomed in 2011 as other online poker sites such as PokerStars and Full Tilt were targeted by the US government. 888 announced that for the six months of its most recent fiscal year
poker revenues are up 22% when compared to the same period in 2010
with poker the strongest performing product since 888 launched its new poker platform in 2010. Growth in its poker product accelerated in the period from April 2011 to June 2011 – up nearly 60% when compared to the same period last year. Much of this growth was fueled by the US government’s actions on April 15 when it indicted and seized the domains of PokerStars and Full Tilt
with many international players moving over to 888
PartyPoker
and other sites that never flaunted US law by taking on US players. 888 has also sought to carve out a space for itself in the crowded online poker landscape by appealing to more casual players
including rolling out new PokerCam tables that require a Web cam to play as well as other promos and tournaments geared towards recreational players. 888 also generates significant business from its online casino
sportsbetting
and bingo products; total revenue was up 18% over the first six months of 2010.
